Eating Disorder and Substance Use Recovery in Connecticut
Christina Owens, LCSW
Hi, I’m Christina Owens,
a Licensed Clinical Social Worker practicing in Connecticut.
I specialize in treating substance use disorders, and eating disorders, and want you to know that it is possible to recover and live a full and exciting life.
With an open-minded presence, I provide a space where you can be yourself without judgement. I enjoy helping individuals create a loving relationship with themselves, identify their strengths, attain and maintain life satisfaction, and achieve a sense of peace.
Taking the step to start therapy is an extraordinarily difficult and brave one. If you feel that your ability to live your life is being affected, then it may be time to try therapy. I promise to bring empathy, humor, transparent honesty, and irreverence into therapy as ways to help shift emotions, thoughts, and behaviors.
Together, we’ll explore how to get to a place where you are empowered to skillfully change your life.
My Services
Anxiety
Together, we'll explore the roots of your anxiety, tune into your unhelpful thought processes, challenge them, and work on coping skills to help you find calm and reclaim control.
Substance Abuse
Through a supportive, judgment-free approach, we'll address the underlying causes of substance use, One of my passions is working with those who are newly sober, in long-term recovery, or are curious about reducing the role substances play in their life.
Eating Disorders
In a safe and nurturing environment, we'll compassionately unpack your relationship with food and body image, guiding you toward healing and fostering self-acceptance, nourishment, and confidence.
Children and Teens
I have completed DBT training for children and teens and love to incorporate play and art therapy in addition to skill building. I work closely with parents and incorporate family sessions into treatment plans.

Clinical Specialties and Education
I received my Bachelors in Sociology from North Carolina State University and my Masters in Social Work from The University of Georgia. I hold a license in LCSW for the state of Georgia and for the state of Connecticut. I have been trained in and integrate a range of therapeutic approaches, including humanistic, dialectical behavioral, psychodynamic, experiential, emotion-focused, and relational/interpersonal orientations, as well as trauma-processing models. My therapeutic approach is collaborative, strength based, and client focused.
I have significant experience working with adults and adolescents struggling with substance use disorders and supporting their recovery. I know how defeating it can be to try and quit substances and how isolating both active addiction and recovery can feel. I have also worked at a STEM institution to coordinate recovery services, conduct mandated alcohol and drug evaluations and provide mental health counseling.
I have experience working with children and adolescents struggling with mental health issues including; autism, ADHD, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, self-harming behavior, impulsivity, post-traumatic stress disorder, and mood dysregulation.
I know how hard life can be when you are facing these challenges, but most importantly, I also know that you are capable of overcoming them. I have been privileged to watch the powerful transformation that occurs when an individual is empowered to take the necessary steps towards change.
Fees and Insurance: my standard rates are $195 for the initial consultation and $180 for ongoing sessions. I do not accept insurance, but I frequently help my clients use their out-of-network insurance benefits to obtain reimbursement for services. This means that my clients are responsible for the full fee at the time of our appointment, and a certain percentage of the fee may be paid to them through their insurance company. If you have questions about this process, I will be happy to walk you through it, and I provide all of the paperwork necessary to file these claims. Reduced rates may be available on a limited basis, and I am open to discussing fees and payment during an initial phone consultation.
